This is a really sharp take on the Democrats' big tent problem. The point about progressives enforcing litmus tests while claiming to build coalitions is someting I hadn't fully considered - its almost like the tent gets smaller even as the rhetoric gets more inclusive. I saw this locally when moderates felt pushed out over single-issue positions. The data on voter perceptions shifting shows how wide the gap between party activists and swing voters has become.
